How can I create my own meshes?
Please read this Guide. Here you can read all the Ins and Outs of Mesh creating. As well as learn about all the tools you need for making your own creations. Takes patience and practice. Good Luck.
Where are your skins?
If you have downloaded ZIP files from my mesh collection you will notice there are no skins included. I am sorry if you wanted that particular skin but there is a good chance it doesn't even exists. These skins are only used to display the mesh. I am not a skinner, so I "borrow" skins from other resources. If not stated otherwise, they are not available for download. In fact, my meshes are intended for skinners which means you rather make your own skins.
How can I create skins?
Skins are 256x256 bitmaps. They can be created with all common photo editting software like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe PhotoShop. Professional skinners often work with layers. As well the three skintones nude skins are perfect skins to have as background layers. I must admit I don't have much experience in creating skins. At least not that much to write a tutorial. Besides there are already quite a number of tutorials available. You might start in our Simfreaks Discord Page.
Is there a guide in my language?
If your language is listed on this site, yes it is. Just click on the flag of your language. If there is no flag representing your language there is yet no version available. In that case you are invited to make a translation. Be sure to mail me before you start since some translators may be actually be working at the moment. I don't want to have you do a lot of work for nothing.
What 3D program do you use?
There are a lot of 3D programs. For making Sims meshes MilkShape 3D has been proven very suitable. Not only are all tools designed to be compatable with MilkShape. MilkShape itself supports The Sims Import/Export formats. It should be remarked that some little bugs are still present in this software.
The links on your site are dead!
Oh no... are you sure? In that case just send me a mail and I will see if I can help you with it. This counts only for the links listed in my Links section. I don't keep an archive of guest skinners and requesters.
How do you make the previews?
Almost all previews are taken by making a screencapture from SimPosium. With this program you can set your meshes and skins up in almost any scene. It will take a little training to work with this program but once you have it in your fingers it is real great program. Stylissimode provides quite a number of high quality poses for SimPosium which you can use.
Can I use your meshes on my site?
Yes you can. When posting your skins using my meshes, I like you to link back to my site. Only a textlink to http://www.simfreaks.com/jerome/ and add the jReadme.txt file in your ZIP file is enough. A banner is not needed. If posting my E-Mail address, please use jerome@simfreaks.com.
Can you create this head for me?
Probably I will reject this request. Not only I never had the intention to create headmeshes, there are some meshers who have already a great collection of headmeshes. I don't feel like adding more versions to those collections. Browse through the real heads of my dear friend Fionn and you will most likley find something tyou like. Unfortunatly you can't place requests. By posting your ideas in our forum you will increase your chances :-).
Can you make this mesh pregnant?
I will probably be able to make a pregnant version of any particular mesh. However I will not take this request. Besides already a lot of pregnant meshes are already out there the amount of preganant variations will be unlimited. Instead you can add a pregnant belly to every mesh of your choice by using Ahn's SimAttacher program.
Can you give this mesh bigger breasts?
I will probably be able to make a bigger breasted version of any particular mesh. However I will not take this request. Yes I created some in the past and will do some characters in future but the amount of breasted variations will be unlimited. Instead you can add a enhanced breats size to every mesh of your choice by using Ahn's SimAttacher program.
Can you make toddler or teens meshes?
I really wished it was possible to create such Sims. It will sure fullfill lot of people requests. If I was able to change the height of a Sim I would not only be able to create teens and toddlers but also basketball players, dwarfs and giants. Unfortunatly it is not possible... The main reason is that the game uses predefinied animations. There are animations for adults and children. Two major bodyparts in these animations are very crucial: The positions of the head and hands. They cannot be changed! No matter how tall or short the body is, the head and hands will stay in its place. That's why the body won't fit with the animations when it is taller or smaller. Sorry, .how much I like the idea, it can't be done due to gaming limitations :-( Don't mail me about the SimTeen program. This program uses very skinny Adult meshes, still matches the adult bones and places a child sized head on top of it. I don't find the result will solve the "teenage question", but I just gave you the link in case you like to find out yourself.
I can't load your BJ meshes in SimShow!
Since we will run out of bodynumbers I decided to add a letter j in the bodynumber so codes like bj21fafit_JVDPR50dress is intended. This will cause no problems in the game but unfortunatly SimShow cannot deal with this. Maxis didn't make SimShow according to the game rules, I would be too limited in my meshes when I must make them SimShow compatables. You can either take another program to view your skins (bodywarp?) or make a test file. A lot of experienced skinners create testfiles.
Here is the process using bj21fafit as an example:
  1. Copy bj21fafit_JVDPR50dress.CMX to b000fafit_test.CMX
  2. Open NotePad.exe and open b000fafit_test.CMX
  3. Change the 5th line into b000fafit_test.CMX (this line represents the CMX filename)
  4. Place b000fafit_test.CMX and xskin-bj21fafit_JVDPR50dress-PELVIS-BODY.skn in the CMX3 directory of SimShow
  5. Create your skin named b000fafitlgt_test.BMP (or med or drk skintone)
  6. Ship bj21fafitlgt_YourSkinName.BMP with the original mesh
  7. You can overwrite b000fafit_test files
How to rename your meshes?
Huh? Renaming my meshes? Why not asking my Personal Identification Number of my bankaccount? You should never rename my meshes. Why would you? If you are having problems with the BJ code, please check question 13. If you want to rename it bexause you are using an add-on you should only change the CMX file. Inside the CMX file refer to my original SKN file. This way there will be two benefits: 1. Credits to the creator of the mesh will stay clear, 2. The game doesn't have to load the same mesh (SKN file) more than once. Having much meshes loaded will dectrease the performance of your game.
Do you take requests?
I no longer make body meshes for The Sims 1.
Can I modify your mesh?
That won't be very nice of you but I can't stop you from modifying my meshes. All my meshes are based on original Maxis meshes. I never change a mesh of another mesher. If you really need one of my meshes to base your new creations on, I will appreciate you notify me and give me proper credits on your site and in your readme file.
Can you add my link to your site?
No, I only place your link on my site if you significly contributed to it. I will if you developped a program which I use for creating my meshes, I asked you to provide me some skins or translate my duides. You can however, join my eGroup. Members of the group are allowed to place their link in the Bookmark section. Add the description of your choice and make it available to all the other members.
