Juicy Gossip

VelSims

Vima - Somewhat pleasing to the eye, but lacking refinement. The predesigned graphics help this site a little, but it's rough around the edges. The logo seems a bit out of place with the overall style and also a little choppy.

The wallpaper doesn't quite tile right. While it looks like it might work from the image, you feel mislead when you actually put it on a wall. The lines between are smoothed out, but often the repeating pattern is off just a bit. It's a shame too, because some of these papers could be really beautiful, if they just tiled correctly. There are a few that did work, and I would suggest setting the pictures as your wallpaper to test them out before grabbing them.

I wish I could say more for the floors, but they just seem like some snippets of wallpaper that you put on your floor. I didn't like the tile lines they produced and was really hoping for something more. While there may be a few pieces that could be salvaged, I just find the overall quality not worth my time.

The paintings are classic works of art, framed Art Studio style. I just rarely download Art Studio framed paintings because I find the frames a bit boring.

Navigation isn't fabulous. There seems to be two parts to this site and a slight lack of order.

Despite the problems that I see now, I think VelSims has potential. The artist definately has taste and has created some really nice looking scheme, but they just fall short in the tiling aspect. Not all of the pieces are bad, but unfortunately, it's bad enough to keep downloaders from returning.

I really need a drink, so I'll toast 1 martini glass and throw in an extra olive for potential. I'm saving the other 4 glasses for myself.

Mason - Well this site is on its way to becoming a nice site. Some nice colors and easy navigation are definately a welcomed sight. This site has a nice warm, come on in and take a look feel to it. It at the moment only has walls floors and art but has already had such a great response in the community the webmaster has had to open a 2nd section to hold all the goodies! Most of the walls have matching floors for those of you who love that sort of thing. Also they are very different then I thought they would be, the walls I mean :) I didnt know what to expect when first coming upon this site.

Up until recently they have been very good about their updates and that is always a plus. Although I am still hoping to see other objects here since the walls and matching floors are soo cute :o) I also like the fact that the webmaster is open to you sending any suggestions, rants or raves, that shows something! Most people dont want to hear you if you dont have anything but nice things to say to them.

Looks as if they are getting some nice traffic from the famed TobyKat and Starlight Forum as well. So it seems that this site has the right things going for it. I cant wait to see what is next. I give this site 4 martini glasses!

Church Lady - Ah this was a rather pleasant assignment. Velsims was a relaxing place to visit. I wish only for some walls and floors put together as sets. The walls and floors themselves are fine, some have slight flaws or tiling problems but as a whole are of good quality, isn't that special? The material on Velsims2 being much better and shows how this creator has been improving steadily. I'm normally bored by Art Studio paintings but a few weren't bad. The site was easy to navigate even split into two as it is. The backgrounds and buttons weren't distracting at all and in nice earthy tones. The only suggestions I would have for this site would be to move to a larger site off homestead maybe one of those offering 100 megs and no second page downloads. To also try making some Transmogrified paintings as those would really make her walls shine! I give the webmaster of Velsims I give 4 communion cups and a congratulations on a job well done, lamb.

Skyler - Another girls night out. Just what we all need :) Vima sent me to this cute little site, it was very pleasing to look at, nothing to shock me outta my heels. She seems ti keep us updated on the main page with this and that. She's had to move to a second area due to space problems. Hmmm... If she MUST do that, she might want to consider keeping floors on one site and walls on another. We get easily confused by the end of the day. However it was a creative way to get around the rules of a free site ;)

I noticed the icons at the bottom of some of the pages are different, some are hard to read due to the dark colors. Not good on my eyes!

OK, on to the downloads! I think the walls and floors are much better on VelSims, rather than VelSims 2. I like how she's put the papers with matching floors, to make it easier on visitors.

The art work is cute, nothing that my higher paid Sims would run off to get.

Overall I would have loved this site last summer before I found some of the bigger ones. Her work is good but not the best in my opinion. As I said earlier, it's cute and I'm sure she has a lot of visitors :) If your looking for walls you might want to stop by and pick a few up :)

Cheers to VelSims with two martini glasses and extra bubbles!

Hmm... I seem to be the first of out group here tonight. I think I'll go goose the guy over there with the nice fanny before Church Lady puts a crimp in my style :)

Squeegee - "This site should be titled "The Hidden Gem" because there is in fact a hidden gem for all to explore.

Taking detailed looks at websites has always been high on my priorty. You just never know what you see. The page background is soft on the eyes, it draws the person naturally to the buttons on the left. By clicking those buttons the user is rewarded by uniqe artwork featuring many of the classic artists of the ages. From Dante to Van Gogh. Even next to Van Gogh stands a decent reproduction of "Tigger" in some sort of power stance with his tail erect and his fists balled for a fight.

The floor and wall sections feature creative patterns and colors. I downloaded a few walls that caught my eye and installed them into the game. When used, they look smooth within a room. They don't have any of the rough repeated look that some walls have if they are placed within a row.

Now the gem is "VelSims2". Be sure to pay attention for the buttons and links. On the front page you will find a button if you scroll down (and down and down) about half way down the page. By far, the walls in this section are the best. Within the "Plain Walls" section you will spot two walls that stand out. One appears to sport a soft floral design of a water plant (vs_390.zip). And my favorite is the pattern (vs_389.zip) that appears to resemble a old western type of fabric with raised felt. This wallpaper must have been in such places like a Saloon or even a Brothel. You can just see the history in it. And I can tell you, if you see any sort of history within a wall for the game. Then you most love it or be borderline unstable. :)

There is a negative for the website though. And that would be how the mainpage runs so long that the Sim user has to search for the guestbook and that link to "VelSims2". I noticed that the other pages do not have this problem. Now, this all could be the fault of my Netscape browser. Because as I am typing this I just found the updates on the lower right of that page. Also, with this problem many not be able to find the guestbook links to add in praise or rejection. So, I have to admit that this one negative aspect hurts my rating.

This is my first review for the ladies of Sim Lounge. And I told them that I review "hard but fair" because I also use this same reviewing trait on what I make for the love of the game. So, in keeping with my reviewing standards I rate this site two martinis and an extra chewed up cherry. "
