Juicy Gossip

Sim Town Comforts - 16 May 2001

Vima - The entry page is pleasant and inviting. The colors are easy on the eyes against the text and the images are cute. I wish I didn't have to scroll so far down just to get to the links though.

The news updates page is a completely different design, though still in the same style. The problem isn't solely in the design, the text is against a spotted background that is just a bit too busy to make reading easy on the eyes. Centered text and sans-serif fonts are an added strain for heavy reading.

About Me page tells a little bit about the creator and her husband. Unfortunately, some of the images are overlapping the purple text box.

The walls page also has a problem with text overlapping edges an apparently the design isn't consistent, but rather themed in it's style. The text isn't clickable, instead the images are and that becomes very confusing when trying to tell what is supposed to be clicked. The image above, the image below? Image left? Image right? Without consistency, I'm lost. The wallpapers have some nice colors and style, unfortunately, too many of them fail the tiling test.

The text overlapping is a serious problem. I believe that the designer may be using a font that the visitor doesn't have and that causes problem. Try going to Arial font and you'll see what I see. There is a reason that every site uses the same fonts ;) The houses are hard to see with such small pictures and it would be nice if we could see some zoomed in views or something.

The objects section is just starting out, so I'd just like to say that I like objects that rotate. I hate objects that don't, unless they are objects that look mostly the same from any side. So when you do make object, I hope you'll keep that in mind ;)

The site is just starting, so I hope the creator will take some time to browse through a few more good tutorial. Taste and style aren't a problem and these little things can be easily fixed with just a little more experience.

I leave the review with 1 martini and an olive and a warm fuzzy feeling.

Squeegee - It's a pleasant day here. I am sitting up in the home office with the windows open and with the birds chirping in the distance. It's the perfect set to review "Sim Town Wall Coverings" because the layout looks and feels exactly like it does right outside my window. There are birdhouses as well as a bunch of yellow birds all about the pages. I like it. Maybe it's because my girlfriend collects different types of birdhouses and has then strewn around the dwelling. :)

I love the graphics.. Some individuals might say that it's too much. But I have to say that it's in my range of good taste. The animations go well with the overall look. It's a nice blend.

The last update was the 13th of this month. So Jen does keep busy with adding new goodies to the website. It's also a major plus that she has a "about me" page. As I tend to enjoy learning about the people behind the sites. I know that there are people who will drift away from that personal approach to a website. And that is fine, but in my book it's a plus. :)

The majority of the walls featured have that "home sweet home" look. They are extremely satisfying to the eye. The selections are in proportion. In meaning that you don't see many of what I would consider "loud" walls. Walls that would take away the attention of the furnishings or even the Sim in that certain room. Jen has a knack for detailed and yet simple (not as a negative remark) offerings of walls. I think that when I use the word "simple". I am talking about the earth shades and how the walls would make a Sim house appear to have more of a country look to them. They are extremely nice regardless of what words I attempt to use.

House Designs are a must see. I got a thrill out of the small lakefront dock that was presented in the "Country Cabin" property. :)

The "Links" page features what appears to be a broad range of links. But for some reason the actual URL's or thumbnail image links don't appear for a bunch of them. So the user notices a sentence like "A quality site with the most original objects and skins." and no referring link!!

The negative aspects are minor. I tend to have the notion that some of the images draw the user away from the page links. It's a little confusing, but once the user knows how it works then they won't have any difficulty with navigation. I would recommend some sort of faded images that would naturally bring the users eyes to the link graphics. Or something of that sort.

I submit a review of three martinis and an extra chewed up cherry and toss in a bookmark for good measure!!

Simantha - Uh-oh...looks like a quaint small town I'm heading into here. Never a good sign, really, as any good X-Phile should know.

Okay, I'm confused. There's a section called News and Updates, but yet there are already "Updated" banners next to the other sections....sort of redundant, if you ask me. I'm still waiting on the first walls page to load up, there sure are a heck of a lot of them per page. They look fairly pretty and quaint, just like the site. Aww, and the objects, few as they are, are pretty cute too, although those dang "NEW" banners are starting to annoy me....

Short reviews from me lately, I know, but since I keep looking over my shoulder for that scary monster to show up I'll just say three martinis and a bookmark!

Storel - Sim Town Comforts used to be called Sim Town Wall Coverings, and you can tell that they've only recently branched out from walls into other areas. The site's total non-wall content so far is three houses and three objects. I have nothing against walls, but I'm not really into them either, so this will be quick.

The houses may be well designed, but I can't tell. Two of the houses only have one picture each, and while the remaining house does have more than half a dozen pictures, all the pictures are too darned small to see anything! The least they could do is give you an enlarged view when you click on one of the tiny pictures.

The objects are better displayed, at least. They consist of a basket of vegetables and two plush toys. The toys are cute, but only have one view, facing the viewer directly no matter how you rotate your game view, which is something that I've mentioned in previous reviews really bothers me.

There are lots and lots of walls. "Jen's Walls" has five subsections, each with dozens of walls, and "Cinjan's Country Comforts Page" turns out to be thirteen pages, though most of them have far fewer walls than Jen's pages. You'll probably find something you like somewhere in all these walls, especially if you like a "country" feel.

The pages are heavy with graphics and tend to load sluggishly, even with my cable modem, so you may have to wait a bit if you visit during Internet "prime time" (early evening after people get home from work). Visiting during off hours may help. Some of the buttons don't behave the way you'd expect, either; when you go to press one of the "Next" or "Home" buttons on a page, the border of the button is clickable, but the text in the center of the button is not, which is a bit odd. Also, since the pages don't specify a font, the correct spacing of the text is highly dependent on whether your browser's default font has similar spacing to theirs, so you may need to tweak your font to eliminate odd spacing problems. On the plus side, the site works great with Netscape.

Overall, I give Sim Town Comforts three martinis.

There is a great deal of text on this main page, I like the colors, but I do wish that there we less text. Oh my the news and updates page has little angels on it, I feel so at home here. Praise be!!!

I also like the fact that Jen updates regularly.

Everything is very country, patchwork quilt like graphics. I find myself very partial to them. Wow there are tons of walls here!!! I am not really a walls person. I don't find myself going to sites and downloading them, but I am going to bookmark this site. I think there are some walls that won't tile correctly but I will have to leave it up to the others to say whether that is the case or not.

Jen's first objects are fine objects, not to my taste however. She is adding another artist as well named Cinjan. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

If you like country type of furnishings, then you will like this wall's site, I am giving three and a half communion cups.

Well things are so slow at the lounge even Skyler has seemed to be minding her manners lately. I think it is all due to my praying for them. Hallelujah sister!!

Skyler - Hi all. Unfortunately I need to keep this review really short tonight due to other obligations. I like the colors used on this site even though I'm not overly fond of country. Her little bird houses are cute :) She has all the info that people generally put at the bottom of the main page such as, voting for her site, join an e-mail list, sign my guest book etc. I personally feel she should move all that down. Same goes for her "about me" section. Should be moved to the bottom as most people are coming here for Sim related items, not reading personal info (no offense intended) :)

Jen has a fabulous selection of wall papers, I think they do deserve looking at by all. My biggest gripe is not all of them tile nicely, especially the ones with the larger borders. Her taste is great with the selection she has, she uses very nice colors, and her molding is done nicely, she just needs to work on getting the borders to appear more "seamless." I did notice "Cinjans" tiling needs to be worked on even more so, but there is potential. < BR>
The floors are a bit "flat" to me, nothing to make it look as if real tile were laid with "grout" in it. They look more like little pieces of wallpaper shrunk to make a floor. Those could look better.

The houses are a bit to large for me, I like smaller homes, they're easier to really get into the game and play :)

There are only three objects available. I personally don't care for them. They don't have a 3-D look to them. They look like a picture just turned into an object. However she does admit she's new to this, and I'm sure she'll improve as time goes by.

Because of the large selection of papers here I'm toasting them 3 martini glasses and a bookmark. I'd like to check back, I think this site has quite a bit of potential.

All the categories are nicely marked and the navigation is easy.
