Juicy Gossip

Simply Gifts

Vima - Cute little site with quite a few nice little objects and wallpapers. I could delve deep into it, but tonight I'm going to be brief. Some of the objects are really nice and some are just off-angle. I like objects that rotate rather than a cut out of one picture that flips and doesn't view at the right angle.

The wallpapers and floor sets look cute and might be worth looking at.

The kids bedrooms were really not my style, but they are very cutsey. The kitchen sets are mostly brighter than what I use and some of the lines could be a little smoother; however, that might be attributed to a bad picture and not the actual object. I didn't dive in that deep. If you like bright colors, there are some cute pieces here, but just a little too cute for me.

The real gems here are the fruit bowls and floral arrangements, because the rotation becomes less of an issue with these items and the angles are close to on the money. Definitely woth a look at.

I noticed a few problems with a double frame load on the top, something isn't targetted right, so that needs to be looked at.

Two martinis with an extra olive and a bookmark.

Sister Cecilia C. Robertsim
Pastor of the Church of Simmintology -
Wow lots of text on the main page and honestly I scrolled down it and do not have the heart to read even half of it...but like I have mentioned before I am a bit attention deficit, so that is probably why. But I like the color scheme, blue! The banner at the top is actually very pleasing on the eye, I was looking for someone to do one for the church bizarre for me, perhaps I will ask here!

Oh I found a wonderful angel picture in the home decor section. The pictures here are numerous and the subjects of the majority of them, I feel could be placed in any good God Fearing home. Praise be!

In home furnishings there are bedroom sets for children. It is terrible to imagine what sort of spoiled children you would have if you gave them a room such as these, children should be made to earn their way. A simple room is always best I say. Some people I am sure will love these sets, but be prepared to pay the consequences for over indulgence, don't come crying to me when your rotten child gets sent to military school. Hallelujah Sister!

Pat has always wanted a red lawn mower. In fact there are some things here that I didn't even know I needed until I saw them... I hope that Pat doesn't get too mad, he did give me some money to buy myself something nice.

Basically the name really says it all SIMply Gifts, has gifts. If you need some knick knacky things or winnie the pooh sets, then come over and take a look at everything. I am not even going to attempt to comment on it all. There is a lot here.

As for myself I have book marked it and I intend to come here and buy some art for my home, if Pat will let me spend more money! So I am giving three and a half communion cups!! Glory Heavens Hallelujah!

Well I guess it is back to the Lounge for me, it seems like either I am there or Skyler is there, but not both of us at the same time, I wonder if people are starting to ask themselves if this is one of those Clark Kent, and Superman things....well maybe she will be there tonight and put all that sort of nonsense talk to rest! Amen!

Storel - My first impression of Simply Gifts was not good: when using Netscape, nothing of the site showed up but the AOL frame along the top of the page, no matter how many times I reloaded the page. Had to switch to IE for the whole review. This seems especially odd considering that AOL owns Netscape; wouldn't you have to work extra hard to make an AOL web page that incompatible with it?

Although the site has downloads divided into 6 major sections with numerous subsections, all the material here basically falls into three categories: 1) walls & floors; 2) furniture (but only for bathrooms, dining rooms, and kids' bedrooms); and 3) decorative knick-knacks and bric-a-brac. The third category is by far the largest, with four of the six sections devoted to it. So if you're looking for, say, living room furniture, or fireplaces, or skins, forget it; but if you love decorating your Sim homes with all kinds of little things to make them look more "lived in", you've come to the right place.

The other thing you have to watch out for is that all these little things were made from photographs, and have all the usual flaws associated with that: they're photorealistic, which jars some people because it doesn't look as cartoonish as the normal Sims items; and they're often not positioned at the proper angle to match the normal Sims perspective, which some people find intensely distracting and irritating. If you're bothered by either of these properties, you may find slim pickings outside of the Home Decor and Home Furnishings sections. Although paintings and posters have a section to themselves under Home Decor, you'll find some scattered through the Themed Sets and Special Collections sections, too.

Home Decor contains the aforementioned Paintings and Posters section, along with four pages of wall and floor sets. The selection of paintings and posters is quite large, with a variety of sizes and shapes and subject matter. I do wish they'd identify the artists and paintings by name, though. The walls and floors also come in a wide variety, and I especially like the fact that every wall has at least one compatible floor and vice versa.

Home Furnishings has sets of furniture in three categories: Sets for Kids, Bathroom Sets, and Dining Room Sets. Each set is displayed in a single screenshot containing all the items. Frustratingly, these screenshots are all either too small or too blurry to see the objects well; if they're not going to have individual pictures, they should at least make the group pictures big enough to see individual items clearly. Some of the furniture looks good, but some have just had a flat pattern pasted on them, with no attempt to wrap the pattern around the object so it looks 3-dimensional.

If you're especially fond of kids' themes such as Winnie the Pooh, Blue's Clues, or Hello Kitty, you're in luck; they have a wide assortment of items. You'll have to search a bit to find everything for a given theme, though; the appropriate furniture -- kids' beds and desks and such -- will be under Home Furnishings: Sets for Kids, while the matching walls and floors will be in Home Decor: Wallpaper Sets, and the paintings, posters, stuffed dolls, and other decorative items will be under Themed Sets. Putting everything for a given theme in one place would make it easier to find.

Overall, how you'll like the site depends mostly on how you feel about knick-knacks, especially ones made from photos; if you don't care for them, all that's left are the paintings and posters and a limited amount of furniture. If you do, though, you'll probably have a great time looking through their vast collections of knick-knacks. I give it two martinis plus a lime.

Squeegee - When I initially sat down to review "Simply Gifts" I had said to myself that it should not take long. Because of the fact that after the AOL frame loads up the site actually loads up as a blank white page if the user is using Netscape as the favored Internet browser. This was precisely the case for me when I typed in the URL for the site and I didn't see anything.

Well, I was forced yet again to use Microsoft's browser to examine a site. Note of advice to the webmaster at Simply Gifts. If you can, please make a website viewable for all users if you can. You would be surprised at the amount of people that are denied admission only because they favor a different browser..

Besides this major drawback so early in the appraisal experience. I was quite flabbergasted at the beauty of Simply Gifts as it loaded into the "other" browser. The latest update was on May 3rd, so there seems to always something new featured. And this time it was twenty-three new objects..

The navigation is harder then the websites that I have reviewed in the past. But I tend to think that this is because of the tremendous amount of things you will find here. I loved the area that features the "Collectable Bears". I can see that Debbie is a fan of "Boyds Bears". I have to say that I am a fan of the Boyds collection of fairies. So finding bears was a nice surprise..

There are limitless objects available on this site. I was fond of a few areas such as the exotic flowers, fruit baskets, roses, plants, and other creative specialty areas. But, the drawback to some of the objects offered is that some of them are not in the correct angles what would make them realistic within the game itself. I am sure some of the T-Mog object makers know what I am talking about. The Sims views are all shown from above and to a slight angle. As yet there are some objects featured that are straight views as well as from angles that would make the object appear to be on it's side and in the air..

Other then the things mentioned, I have to say that this site features lots of specialty items that would be hard to find in the Sims Community. There is a very passionate personal touch that is shown and the negatives I mentioned are small in contrast to the whole website..

Knowing that Simply Gifts does not seem Netscape friendly, I must submit a review of three martinis and an extra chewed up cherry and a bookmark!!
