House of the Rising Sims

Vima - Hmmm. Looks like they are trying to score points with Squeegee. Using his skins...won't work on me ;) hehe The layout is okay. Too much centered text, but it could be worse. The background is pleasant enough and the buttons are almost perfect, they could use some anti-aliasing on the text. Otherwise, not to bad.

Well, I've already been browsing around this place trying to find something to do. The floors are mostly not my taste. I like realistic floors and well, most of these are not. A few hidden gems can be found in misc. and outside, but I'd leave the rest. The same goes for the walls. Bad tiling for a lot of them, and well, just not my taste again.

The roofs are sooo teeny tiny that I can't really see what they look like. My monitor is at 1024x768 so they are just too darn small. Hurting my eyes. Some of them look good, but it's a little hard to tell.

I don't know what happened to these house pics, but the quality is so poor, I could barely tell they were houses. I might be exaggerating a wee bit, but really, why are they so grainy. Looks like someone changed it to a gif, resized it then changed it to a jpg. Ick.

A martini...

Sister Cecilia C. Robertsim
Pastor of the Church of Simmintology -
Well this place looks friendly enough. Pink walls with peace signs on them, I wish that we could all just give peace a chance. I was thinking about this the other day and we all know that contention is the tool of only one person!! And as the Dear Church Lady would say, could that be Satan?!?!? Why yes my dear friend it could be. Praise be!

This place has no objects to download, but I have been getting used to that so I will not complain. And like I have said before there is no need for a person to have everything on their site.

So we will start with walls. There are some interesting walls here, but I do not in any way condone having a whole page dedicated to an evil "Weed" and we all know exactly what that weed is don't we?? Yes I think that we all do. ::shocked and dismayed, clutches the Good book and the bottle of smelling salts, just in case::

Floors, now hopefully I can stay away from any more of Satan's minions...Oh look children's floors. How cute the red flower on the blue background that is just darling...maybe Pat will let me get that for our guestroom. I will have to bring him back here.

The houses on this site are most unusual, and while I do not condone large homes of this size, I am intrigued by the designs there is a star, a moon, and a peace sign. I wonder if Suz takes suggestions, I can see myself quite happy in a home shaped like a dove! Glory to His name!

Well all in all I have quite enjoyed my stay here at House of the Rising Sims. I cannot agree with the choice of some of the subjects but shall give three communion cups anyway. This is a sacrifice for me I am usually not this lenient on evil. I may have to get down on my knees and pray tonight!!! Heavens help a poor sinner!!

So Skyler still hasn't graced us with her presence and I am starting to wonder if she ran off with a traveling brush salesman. She has a thing for men that go door to door, I really don't understand that fascination, but then I am a happily married woman! Hallelujah sister!

Storel - It never actually says so, but I quickly figured out from all the peace signs on the main page that House of the Rising Sims is dedicated to the Sixties. If that hadn't done it, the names of the pages within the Walls and Floors sections would have: Psychedelic, Cozmik, PeaceSigns, Hemp...

The Psychedelic section was trippy, man; lots of bright colors and abstract designs, including some that looked very much like tie-dye. Very groovy. Cozmik was, like, wow, stars and planets, and Tropical had lots of bamboo and jungle stuff. PeaceSigns was what you'd expect: a variety of designs incorporating the circular peace sign. Children had some cute and cheery designs, some of which definitely reminded me of certain Sixties posters; Hemp was another one where the name said it all: various designs involving marijuana leaves. And Misc. had whatever didn't fit into the rest of the sections.

There are lots of walls and floors in each section -- so many, in fact, that webmaster Suz might want to consider breaking them up into multiple pages for faster loading. It usually took me a few refreshes until I got them all to show. If there were only, say, ten or fifteen per page, she might even be able to use larger images, to better display all the details, and still have the pages load faster than they do now.

The Houses section contains fantasy houses, meaning that nobody except maybe rock stars could afford houses in such fanciful shapes, but they're quite fun and definitely in keeping with the theme. Suz has managed to create houses in the shape of a giant peace symbol, a clover, a moon, a star, and an electric guitar, along with a few others with more normal shapes but groovy interiors. Hmm... moon, star, clover... add a heart-shaped house and you're well on the way to a neighborhood of houses shaped like the marshmallows bits from Lucky Charms cereal! Now there's a theme neighborhood idea for you...

I have to say that some of the walls and floors didn't really remind me much of the Sixties, and I was surprised by the absence of certain quintessentially Sixties visual themes. Nothing in the day-glo style of Peter Max. No designs from Yellow Submarine, one of the most psychedelic movies of all time. No mandalas -- people ranging from the Beatles to Peter, Paul, and Mary were into mandalas. I didn't even see any paisley! I don't know whether these are things Suz just hasn't had time to get around to yet or hasn't even thought of yet, but I think they would greatly increase the Sixties feel of the site.

Overall, though, this is a fun site. Most of the designs are a bit too bright or busy for everyday use, but if you're looking to put together a hippie pad or two, this is the place to get started. I give it three martinis plus an extra lime.

Simantha - *yawn* Sorry, I just rolled out of bed and came straight here, liquid breakfast and all that ;) Looking to get my groove on with this site tonight, judging by the opener and the peace symbols sprinkled liberally across the page.

Hmm, okay, no skins or objects, I guess I can live with that although I don't download a whole lot of walls and floors (or houses) anymore. Oh boy, very hippie-themed. While the walls might be to your taste, a lot of them just don't look like they would flow very smoothly in your house. And the vibrant colors might make you a tad nauseated. Might go well with that bubble blower though. Wish the tropical walls maybe had a particular mural-type picture as opposed to throwing some bright florals in. Peace sign walls...well, I think it'd be good to have a blank wall so that the peace signs could be used as a single wall tile for decoration as opposed to covering your entire room. In fact, a lot of the collections look like they're in need of a blank wall to offset the design. Outside walls are clever, but again they won't look quite right as they won't tile smoothly. Oh, I see, I thought those would be walls made from hemp, but I guess not.

On to floors...I *think* these are meant to match the walls, but it might be easier to figure that out if they were placed together so one does not have to guess at which wall goes with which floor...Some of the carpeting doesn't look like carpeting at all, but just colored squares. Needs some texturing.
The houses look interesting, but the pictures are rather blurry so you can't make out much detail. I do like the idea of the crescent-shaped house and the electric guitar house looks like it took a lot of effort. Oops, forgot to check out roofs...um, the pictures are really small and again, sort of blurry, but I guess they could look nice tiled on the houses.

Meh. I'm gonna just toss two and a half martinis atcha and head out on the dance floor ;)
